Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of problem-based learning models on student learning outcomes. This study is Nonequivalent control group design. The sample in this study was class VII which was determined randomly. The material used is the potential and utilization of natural resources. The data obtained are then tested differently using the independent sample t-test. The results showed that the two research classes experienced positive changes regarding student learning outcomes. In the experimental class the problem-based learning model shows learning outcomes that are better than class controls. Calculation of the independent sample t-test posttest shows that students with Sig. (2-tailed) 0.019, where 0.019 <0.05 means that there is a significant difference. The existence of significant differences indicates that there is an influence of problem-based learning models on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Assurance, Relevance, Interest, Assessment and Satisfaction (ARIAS) is one learning model to students center. This learning model emphasizes the delivery the activeness of students in the class. In the implementation of this model has the five components which consists of five integrated components needed in the learning activities (1) assurance which foster students self-confidence, (2) relevance which connect the material with students real life, (3) interest which grow the students interest, (4) assessment which is an student assessment, and (5) satisfaction which provide a sense of proud to student. The aim of this research was to describe the teacher's ability to manage learning, student activities, student learning, and students' response using ARIAS learning model. Research conducted on the use of the model of ARIAS in social studies so far shown significant result on increase students understanding of social studies consepts. The Application Assurance, Relevance, Interest, Assessment and Satisfaction (ARIAS) learning model can increase student learning outcomes social studies.

Abstract

Knowledge and cognitive development of individuals come from socio-cultural sources around themselves. This article aims to examine the use of local character values in the development of social studies teaching materials in schools. The method used is 4-D Thiagarajan model which has four stages; (1) Define, (2) Design, (3) Develop, and (4) Dessiminate. From the research process, there are significant differences between learning before using local character values and after using local characters. This is indicated by the difference in the value of the pre-test and post-test, after the treatment of the use of local character values in the IPS teaching and learning process the value of t_count shows greater than the t_table value of 1.7> 1.685 for 5%. The n-gain value of the pre-test and post-test was 0.58 in the medium category. This value shows the value of local character has a significant effectiveness in improving students national insight.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills that must be taught to students as an effect of globalization and the demands of skilled workers in the period of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Various learning methods, models and strategies are developed to meet these objectives. One of them is the use of the Independent Learning Activity Unit (UKBM) teaching materials in learning to achieve the learning goals of students' critical thinking skills. The focus of this study is to describe students 'responses to the use of UKBM Sociology based on discovery learning to foster students' critical thinking skills. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with percentage techniques. Data is collected through questionnaires, observation and interviews. While the analysis is carried out through four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. This study shows several conclusions: 1) UKBM Sociology is effectively used in classroom learning to foster students' critical thinking skills; 2) the most prominent assessment is the aspect of student interest in the attractive UKBM design; 3) the assessment is less prominent in the aspect of the discovery learning approach in learning because it requires a long time and the seriousness of the teacher and students. This paper recommends using another learning model at UKBM to foster critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research was based on the existence about the important of spatial Intelligences as based for problem solving skills. The purpose of the study was to know the increase of spatial intelligence and problem-solving skills of learners that are subjected to problem-based learning through the map media. And to know how big the correlation between spatial intelligence  and problem solving skills. The design of this study was Quasi Experimental or quasi-experimental design in the form of Nonequivalent Control group pre test post test design. The hypothesis was tested by using statistical parametric independent sample t test and non-parametric Mann Whitney, followed by n-gain test score as well as the calculation of correlation and regression linearity. The results showed a significant improvement in terms of spatial intelligence between classroom space experiments using map media with grade control and the experimental class using photo media. There was a significant improvement in their to solve problems skills between the two classes of experiments using problem based learning with control classroom using expository models. Then there is a very strong correlation between spatial intelligence variables with the variable problem-solving skills, as well as a significant influence on the spatial intelligence problem-solving skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to clarify the characteristics of industrial learning in Japanese elementary school social studies and to compare viewpoints on social studies in Indonesia. The following three points have become clear as a result of this research, as part of industrial learning in elementary school social studies in Japan, at the class practice level. First, in industrial learning in elementary school social studies in Japan, a unit design was conducted using factories in the area as teaching materials. Second, lessons were conducted through factory tours from the perspective of increasing awareness of the efforts of those working in factories. Third, learning processes involving learners were developed, such as research, visit activities, and discussions centered on childrens problem awareness. The above three points are considered in order to make suggestions for the improvement of industrial learning in the social studies of elementary schools in Indonesia.

Abstract

One of the research topics which intrigues researchers in the subject areas of applied linguistics, international relations and politics is political discourse and the way it is perceived and represented in the media. Researchers have analysed and interpreted the political and international relations discourse of various politicians and diplomats in different countries. By the same token, Iran, as a country with an influence on the political issues of the Middle East and a role in international dynamics and trends, has devoted a plethora of research to itself where researchers have examined and critiqued the international and foreign policies of Iran in various periods of time, in relation to various countries and in connection with various political and international events and situations. However, a search carried out by the present researcher showed that there are not many publications on how the British mass media, newspapers in particular, perceive and represent the Iranian governments international relations discourse. To address this lacuna, a corpus of news stories and reports extracted from two renowned British newspapers, the Guardian and Daily Mail, was analysed by adopting a double hermeneutic content analysis approach. The results suggest that the two newspapers, in spite of being famous for having polar political views, seem to have similar perceptions and representations of the above discourse. The study also provides directions for further research in other contexts.
